Champions of Shanghai Update
View original post on SteamOverview
The Champions of Shanghai update is a celebratory patch built around one thing: honoring Team Spirit's dramatic Major Championship victory at the Perfect World Shanghai Grand Final. This isn't a content-heavy update dropping new cases or operation-style missions — it's a focused, event-closing release that gives the community a way to commemorate what was genuinely one of the most gripping CS2 Major finales in recent memory.
FaZe Clan pushed Team Spirit to the absolute limit, clawing back from a 5-12 deficit on map three before sh1ro sealed the deal in a 1v1 with the bomb planted. That kind of narrative makes the accompanying collectibles feel earned rather than manufactured.
For traders and collectors, the headline item is the Major Champions Capsule, which is now live and purchasable on the Steam Community Market. Rounding out the patch is the introduction of the 2025 Service Medal system, which kicks in on January 1st and gives dedicated grinders something new to chase.
Valve also used the notes to tease the next Major — BLAST. tv Austin in June 2025 — which has its own downstream implications for the market.

New Skins & Collections
There are no new weapon skins, cases, or collections in this update — so if you came here looking for a fresh knife unbox or a new StatTrak rifle to hunt, you'll need to wait. What is new is the Team Spirit Major Champions Capsule, which contains autograph stickers featuring the full Team Spirit roster in four tiers: paper, glitter, holo, and gold.
Sticker capsules tied to Major champions have a well-documented history in this game, and Team Spirit's stickers are no exception to the collector interest that follows a dramatic championship run. The gold and holo variants will naturally command the most attention at launch and are the ones worth watching if you're thinking about long-term holds.
Paper stickers from champion capsules tend to be the sleepers — cheap at open, but they accumulate quietly over years as supply gets applied to skins and never returns. It's also worth noting that 50% of capsule proceeds go directly to the players and organizations, which gives buyers a feel-good reason to open beyond pure speculation.
There's no new 2025 Service Medal skin or visual revealed beyond its existence, so that item remains more of a prestige flex than a tradeable asset for now.

Gameplay & System Changes
The most meaningful systemic addition in this patch is the 2025 Service Medal, which becomes earnable starting January 1st, 2025. The mechanic is unchanged from prior years — hit Rank 40 (Global General), then reset your Profile Rank to receive or upgrade your medal — but the new year means a fresh medal variant enters the ecosystem.
Service Medals are account-bound and non-tradeable, so their impact on the skin market is indirect, but they do influence player engagement and time-in-game metrics heading into the new year. Beyond the medal, this update contains no gameplay changes, no map updates, no anti-cheat announcements, and no economy or UI adjustments.
It is deliberately slim — Valve's way of closing the Shanghai chapter cleanly without burying the championship moment under a pile of patch notes. The real news embedded in this update is the confirmation of the BLAST.
tv Major in Austin, Texas in June 2025, which sets the competitive calendar and gives the community a firm horizon to plan around. That's less a patch note and more a scheduling announcement, but in CS2's ecosystem, Major dates move markets.
Market Impact — Trader's Take
The immediate buy signal here is on Team Spirit player autograph stickers, particularly holo and gold from the Major Champions Capsule. Championship stickers from memorable Majors have historically appreciated over multi-year windows — especially when the storyline is as compelling as a 12-5 comeback.
If you're a collector with a long time horizon, picking up a small stack of gold Team Spirit stickers at or near launch pricing is a reasonable move before the post-hype dip settles and long-term demand quietly rebuilds. The capsule itself is worth watching: if it stays purchasable and doesn't sell out, there's no urgency — but if Valve limits availability as they sometimes do with Major items, that changes the calculus fast.
For existing Shanghai Major sticker capsules (challenger, legends, contenders), expect a modest dip in attention and possibly price as the market pivots to the new champion capsule. Those older capsules aren't going anywhere in terms of long-term value, but short-term trading momentum will shift.
Looking further ahead, the Austin Major announcement in June 2025 means a new wave of team stickers, autographs, and potentially souvenir packages will enter the market in roughly six months — making now a reasonable time to evaluate your souvenir package holdings from Shanghai before Austin hype begins to overshadow them. Hold quality Shanghai souvenirs, trim duplicates, and watch Team Spirit gold sticker prices closely in the first two weeks post-launch.

The Perfect World Shanghai Grand Final was one to remember. Team Spirit and FaZe Clan needed all three maps to determine a champion in front of an excited, sold-out crowd at the SPD Bank Oriental Sports Center.
Down 12:5 on map 3, FaZe Clan battled back with 6 consecutive round wins—and some incredible clutches along the way—to force round 24. With the bomb planted and down to a 1v1, sh1ro's final kill earned Team Spirit their first Major Championship.
Celebrate Team Spirit's win with the Major Champions Capsule, now available for purchase. The capsule features autographs from Team Spirit in paper, glitter, holo, and gold, and 50% of the proceeds go to the players and organizations.
With Shanghai in the books we look forward to the BLAST.tv Major in Austin, Texas. See you in June 2025!
